
Technology today offers us the information we need to control a virus. Tomorrow, technology will be what prevents a pandemic.
The world is a beautiful place to share. The intense competition, increased uncertainty and easy instability hamper it.
We can see it with the COVID-19 pandemic, which globalization is taking today to humanity. This will be a turning point in our lives.
Globalization at the turn of the century, and with it, technological development, favored an improved level of communication and interconnection between the economies of most countries, turning local markets into global markets. Globalization gives, and globalization taketh away. Not only do economies and development travel, so do epidemics, crossing borders with such speed that within days, weeks or months they become pandemics, and in the blink of an eye we wake up in a different world.
The measures that countries are adopting to minimize propagation, using quarantines and preventive hygienic measures help, but today, thanks to the incipient technological development and its effective application, these measures will multiply the success of the results in stopping the virus.
Because of all that, we could say that:
Globalization and technology today are an unfinished revolution. If we want to prevent another pandemic from occurring again in the future, we must all have access to the benefits of learning and training with new technologies.
What technologies have the greatest potential to favor and accelerate improvements in health care?
Smart advanced data analysis or exploitation. Smart health data analysis or mining is considered one of the technologies, “or, better yet, group of technologies or practices” with the greatest potential. Techniques such as big data, data analytics, IA, robotics or traditional business intelligence.
Remote patient management systems. These technologies include the systems that make it possible to control the patient’s health from a distance through status monitoring, remote consultation or even remote intervention.
Synthetic biology. Intersection between biology and technology in the field of synthetic biology.
Collaboration platforms. Collaboration platforms for professionals, patients and/or machines are a great opportunity to integrate information and generate knowledge from a variety of organizations, making it possible for professionals to do things that they couldn’t do individually.
Massive data collection (IoT). As shown in the point above, technologies support each other and make each other more powerful. The previous examples are based on the existence of large volumes of information (smart analysis or collaboration platforms) or in the ability to monitor patient states from a distance (remote patient management systems).
Technologies to improve diagnosis. Today, technology in diagnosis devices, patients, even of an advanced age, capable of using them without medical assistance and, as a result, to report health data massively.
